According to Merriam Webster, a phonomena or phenomenon is an observable fact or event. Yes, the seven year itch is a real phenomena which is known to happen in many relationships and marriages. However, it usually does not always happen at exactly the 7 year mark. It may occur after as little as a few years. The Seven Year Itch is the title of the 1955 film, starring Marilyn Monroe and Tom Ewell. Ewell works for a company that is about to publish a book that suggests many men have extra-marital affairs after seven years of marriage - called the "7-Year Itch". That urge for infidelity after seven years of marriage is the meaning where the phrase came from.

Why seven years? The seven year period is coincidental. In your relationship by the time you get to seven years, you already have children, tons of responsibilities and the romance and intimacy usually fades a little to a lot.
