The Internet Sex Addiction Problem

More than likely hundreds to thousands of men will reach this website in search of pornography, only to have their hopes smashed. Sexual addiction is an actual phenomenon in which individuals report being unable to control their sexual behavior. Other terms to describe it are "sexual dependency," and "sexual compulsivity." Many people believe that the Internet has fueled the sexual addiction phenomenon. The existence of the condition is not universally accepted by sexologists. Skeptics believe that it is a myth that the phenomenon exists as a disease or disorder at all and is instead a by-product of cultural and other influences.

Sexology is the scientific study of sexual interests, behavior, and function. It studies sexual development and the development of sexual relationships as well as the mechanics of sexual intercourse. It also documents the sexualities of specific groups, such as the handicapped, elderly, and children. Sexologists also study sexual disorders, dysfunctions, and variations, such as erectile dysfunction, pedophilia, and sexual orientation.

"A woman wants a man to satisfy her every need.
A man wants every woman to satisy his one need."

Hypersexuality is the desire to engage in human sexual behavior at a level high enough to be considered clinically significant. The concept of hypersexuality replaces the older concepts of nymphomania and satyriasis. Nymphomania was believed to be a female psychological disorder characterized by an overactive libido and an obsession with sex. In males the disorder was called satyriasis (for etymology of the words, see nymph and satyr). "Nymphomania" and "satyriasis" are no longer listed as specific disorders in the DSM-IV, though they remain a part of ICD-10.

The threshold for what constitutes hypersexuality is subject to debate, and critics question whether a standardized diagnostic threshold even exists. Sex drive varies widely in humans; what one person would regard as a normal sex drive might be deemed to be excessive by some and low by others.

Internet sex addiction is likely one of the factors that end up leading to men having cybersex and/or affairs. It may start with "harmless" viewing of pornography. The viewing of pornography may lose its satisfaction that it is providing and then the person starts to satisfy the urge with the actual acts themselves. Internet pornography has also caused all kinds of relationship problems. Most women in relationships are blind to what their male partners are engaging in online.

Cybersex, which is also called cybering, computer sex, internet sex is a virtual sex encounter in which partners connect via a virtual network such as the Internet or mobile phone and more recently webcams. The participants each other sexually explicit messages describing a sexual experience, many times fantasies of what they want to happen. It is a kind of role-playing in which the people imagine that they are having actual sexual relations. The fantasy sex is accomplished by the partners describing their actions and responding to their chat partner in written form. Basically, cybersex is a written form of phone sex. However, webcams and Skype have brought cybersex to the next level, because the partners can actually see each other doing the actions they are describing. The goal is to stimulate their partner's sexual feelings and fantasies. Skype cybersex has been the latest fad so to speak. Skype cybersex partners can be anyone that has a computer and webcam. It could be a coworker, a friend, even a stranger.

Cybersex many times includes masturbation. The quality of a cybersex session usually depends on the partner's abilities to evoke a vivid, visual and mental picture in the minds of their partners. Imagination, fantasy, and being able to reach a climatic moment are critically important. Cybersex can be beneficial to a relationship when the partners are in a committed relationship. Cybering becomes damaging to a relationship when one of the parties in a committed relationship seeks cybersex outside of the relationship. Cybering also occurs between individuals who have no prior knowledge of one another and meet in virtual spaces and may even remain anonymous to one another. Again, cybersex is many times enhanced by the use of webcams, thus eliminating the written part of the cybering.
